PRINCE CHARLES’ LABEL ACCUSED OF SELLING NZ LAMB

British farmers are on a war footing with Prince Charles’ Duchy Organic brand, which has been selling NZ lamb chops, cutlets and legs at Waitrose 340 stores, despite being meant to promote the best of local produce. Waitrose has admitted to offering imported lamb when British supplies were not available.
Welsh sheep farmers also said that NZ lamb was over-priced and over-fat compared with theirs. Rick Powdrell, meat and fibre chairman of Federated Farmers NZ, deemed the ‘food mile rhetoric’ as being ‘old-fashioned, out of date and incorrect,’ pointing out that, due to a shortage from their regions at this time of year, British supermarkets had to source lamb elsewhere to meet demand of organic meat.
“Thankfully for us, they’ve chosen New Zealand organic lamb,” said Powdrell.
