REVERSE VENDING MACHINE

REVERSE VENDING MACHINE

Tesco is set to launch a reverse vending machine that will give money to customers when they deposit a plastic bottle into the machine – encouraging recycling of plastic bottles. A trial of the system will see customers able to deposit ten bottles each per day, with bottles up to 750ml in size able to be used.

Research done by the company claims that under this reverse vending system, around three-quarters of those living in the UK would be likely to return plastic bottles and other recyclable goods.

“We are already committed to eliminating single-use plastic wherever we can and make recycling simpler for customers. Today is another step in that direction. However, we know that it is going to take retailers, manufacturers and government to work together to make progress. We would urge the government to move to a single, nationwide approach to waste collection that makes it much easier for people to recycle,” said Jason Tarry, Tesco UK and ROI CEO.
