Sainsbury’s has become the first UK supermarket to trial meat-alternative products in the meat, fish and poultry aisle. The trial will take place in all of its 20 stores nationwide and will include 26 meat-alternative products from vegan burger patties to meat-free mince.
The trail comes as 91 percent of Brits are reportedly adopting a flexitarian diet. “We’re seeing increasing demand for plant-based products, and with the unstoppable rise of ‘flexitarianism’ in the UK, we are exploring further ways to make popular meat-free options more accessible. We hope that this trial will make our customer’s shopping experience even more seamless, and we’re looking forward to hearing their feedback,” said Rosie Bambaji, Sainsbury’s plant-based buyer.
