US-based supermarket chain Walmart opened its first primary clinic in Georgia named Walmart Health. The ‘super-centre’ offers a comprehensive and low-cost primary care, including mental health counselling. The clinic sits adjacent to the Walmart Store building, to give patients a sense of privacy.

“Walmart is committed to making healthcare more affordable and accessible for customers in the communities we serve,” said a Walmart spokesperson. “The new Walmart Health centre in our Dallas, Georgia store will provide low, transparent pricing for key health services for local customers.”

The launch is in efforts for the brand to capture a share of the $1.3 trillion healthcare industry in the US. Although its entry into the business has been met with criticisms, the launch of a facility provides communities, particularly those in provincial areas, access to mental health services.
