Mint Sauce Becomes Popular Condiment Among Brits

UK | New research, commissioned by Aldi, found that Britain is officially mad for mint, with 81 percent of those polled declaring their love for mint sauce.

Over half the population said it is their favourite condiment, and more than one in five confessed to enjoying mint sauce on a spoon straight from the jar.

Wrexham has been revealed as the UK’s biggest mint sauce-loving city, with 90 percent admitting they can’t get enough of the green stuff, closely followed by Bath and Gloucester.

To celebrate, Aldi will be giving away limited-edition bejewelled Bramwells Mint Sauce jars created in collaboration with luxury designer Maya Grisham. These adorable mini jars have been hand jewelled using hundreds of gemstones to replicate Aldi’s Bramwells Mint Sauce packaging and are perfect for handbag transportation.

Among devotees, tradition is being thrown out of the window when it comes to what to pair the condiment with. Fans admit to drizzling it not just over lamb, but also chicken, beef, and even pork, proving the sauce is no longer reserved for just one meat.

People are going beyond just Sunday dinners as one in five admit to dolloping a spoonful on a kebab, and 36 percent enjoy it with bangers and mash.

The study also found that the condiment is a staple ingredient in British kitchens, served with chips, mushy peas, and even ice cream, with six in ten calling it “underrated”.

Brits have also made space for mint sauce in drinks, as 20 percent say they would use it as a replacement for fresh mint in a Mojito.

The obsession has run deep, with almost a fifth confessing they’ve taken their own mint sauce to restaurants to satisfy cravings when it’s not on the menu.

Over four in ten admit to even stockpiling the sauce and keeping spares in the cupboard, with Wales revealed as the UK’s mint sauce stockpiling epicentre. In the capital, six percent of Londoners confess to going through a jar each day.

According to Aldi’s data, sales of Bramwells Mint Sauce remain high year-round, surpassing 3.4 million jars in the last year and peaking in the lead-up to Easter and Christmas.
