Sourdough Sales Soaring Swiftly

UK | Aldi is reportedly selling 70 percent more sourdough this year vs 2024, with 270,000 loaves flying from shelves per week.

This news came as Taylor Swift called sourdough her latest ‘obsession’ and admitted she has been talking about the bread “60 percent of the time.”

Aldi has revealed a remarkable surge in sales, confirming the beloved artisanal bread has soared to new heights as a British household favourite.

The supermarket has reported an astounding 70 percent increase in sales year-on-year vs 2024, with Aldi regularly selling over 270,000 sourdough loaves per week, which is around 52 per minute.

This growth reflected a worldwide trend, recently highlighted by global superstar Taylor Swift, who openly shared her passion for sourdough on her partner Travis Kelce’s ‘New Heights’ podcast.

In the rare interview, Swift was eager to talk about her love of sourdough bread, and revealed some of the flavours she has made, including cinnamon swirl, blueberry lemon and Funfetti.

Sourdough bread has been hailed by many for its healthier properties due to its natural fermentation process. And with Aldi’s Specially Selected Sourdough Loaf on shelves for a mere GBP 1.75 (500g), it’s no wonder the premium loaf is flying from the aisles at such a swift pace.

Aldi’s Specially Selected Sourdough Sliced Loaf is available in stores now in White, Dark Rye and Seeded options.
