$100,000 FOR CHARITY UP FOR GRABS

Countdown is giving Kiwis the opportunity to pay-it-forward with three of New Zealand’s most-loved charities, The Salvation Army, KidsCan or Forest & Bird, up for a chance to win a share of $100,000.

New Zealand is ranked as the fourth most charitable country in the world, however, with more than 27,000 charities registered here, we also have more charities per head than any other country (one for every 170 people) so fundraising is a constant challenge.

Kiri Hannifin, Countdown’s general manager corporate affairs, safety and sustainability, said the business is proud to partner with fantastic organisations who make such a difference to New Zealanders and our precious environment.

“We are part of 180 communities right across the country and while we contribute in a number of practical ways such as food donations, the reality is that businesses also have a role to play to support charities and the critical work they do, especially as they are seeing a growing need for help.”

“Our customers are already incredibly generous throughout the year; this time we’re delighted to reward our shoppers for their loyalty and at the same time they can also feel good about helping out a fellow Kiwi.”

Jono Bell, The Salvation Army's Head of Welfare Services, added that they continue to see significant demand in the number of New Zealanders needing food parcels. “We rely on donations and the generosity of New Zealanders to care for some of the most vulnerable in our communities, and that need is only getting bigger. We’re proud to partner with Countdown through food rescue donations and New Zealand’s only online food bank, and this is another easy way customers can help out.”

Customers will be able to log onto the Onecard site to vote for their preferred charity. As part of the promotion, there will also be over 6500 Onecard Rewards valued at $15 to be won.
