67 Cent Beers

Hollandia Premium six pack beer

PAK’nSAVE New Plymouth has been forced to remove an ‘extra low’ priced beer that was not in line with the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act. Hollandia Premium six packs usually sell for $12.49 each, but New Plymouth had them on sale for $3.99 - 69 cents per beer.

The Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act prevents retailers from discounting alcohol 25 percent or more. The Hollandia beer was advertised next to a sign that read, “Shhh. That’s got to be a misprint.”

Aupito William Sio, the Associate Minister of Justice responsible for the Act, said the sale was irresponsible and the social implications for a ‘socially deprived area’ were irresponsible.

Emma Wooster, a Foodstuffs Spokesperson, said they were made aware of the issue and took the relevant steps to have the price corrected.
