An all-electric, refrigerated truck trailer is currently being trialled by Aldi in the United Kingdom, as a part of the company's commitment to go carbon neutral and only use renewable energy sources.
The trailer works through Kinetic energy from the wheels and trailer movement being converted into electric energy. This converted energy is then used to fuel the onboard batteries and keep the refrigeration running. The trailer can also be charged at the electric port at Aldi's regional distribution centre in Cheshire. The vehicle not only produces zero carbon emissions but also zero particulate matter such as smoke and dust.
If successful, the latest technology will be shared across the transport fleet, where new trailers have already been fitted with solar power mats. Aldi aims to do as much as possible to reduce its environmental impact.
