New World Ngaruawahia got involved with really cool community effort last weekend… Ngaruawahia local Anna suffers from a rare neurological disorder and cerebral palsy and needed a new specialist wheelchair to remain mobile as she had outgrown her old one. The national Yak Club created the Hakarimata 24hr Challenge, aiming to reach the Hakarimata summit as many times as possible within the 24hr period and raise funds for the new wheelchair. Dave and Anna Jones provided a full trolley of nutritious food and drink supplies to keep the 30-member climbing team fuelled and energised for the event. In total the team completed a total of 186 climbs of the 374m/1349 step summit over the 24hr period and raised enough funds to provide Anna with a new wheelchair – an awesome result!
