DAVID JONES ROLLS OUT FOOD STRATEGY

Australian department stores David Jones is continuing the expansion of its food strategy, with the announcement that a new branch will open in March next year. Malvern Central will play host to the 550sqm David Jones Food store, the first of its kind, offering premium Australian and international brands.

David Jones Food includes prepared food, vegetables and salads, as well as a range of ready-to-eat meal solutions. Sushi, rotisserie chickens and coffee will also be available.

“We are excited to introduce to Malvern a premium food retail offer focussed on convenience, provenance, freshness and taste that will complement our existing fashion, beauty and homewares offering,” said Pieter de Wet, David Jones group executive food. “Malvern Central is the ideal location for this offering, with an accessible centre that lends itself to convenience food shopping and a local customer whom we know are well-travelled food lovers with high expectations for food quality and freshness.”

The first David Jones Food was launched at Bondi earlier this month, the beginning of a $100 million rollout, alongside the launch of its own premium food brand. The next phase involves opening outlets in Wollongong and several standalone stores in the next few years.
