New owner-operator for Gilmours Hawke's Bay, Ollie Newton’s journey with Gilmours started three years ago, when he transitioned from his corporate career into a Commercial Manager role at Gilmours Wellington.

Under the guidance of Matt Humphrey, owner-operator, Gilmours Wellington, Newton learned the entire business, from operations through to commercial outcomes and strategy.

Newton said that from the moment he joined Gilmours Wellington, he treated it as the start of his ownership journey and actively involved himself in every part of the business.

“I helped lead the warehouse management system implementation project, which forced me to learn the business operations inside and out,” he said.

“I’ve always aspired to own a business where I have autonomy to control my own destiny, build, develop and lead a high-performing team, and support a community.”

He added that the strength and support of the Foodstuffs Co-op drew him to Gilmours, and in January 2025, he was lucky enough to be hired into the General Manager role at Gilmours Hawke's Bay.

Since then, Gilmours Hawke's Bay has opened a Cash 'n Carry store and further established its foothold in the Hawke's Bay market. Newton aims to build on this success and become the most trusted partner in Hawke's Bay.

With exciting plans and developments ahead, Gilmours Hawke’s Bay will continue to evolve its offering to ensure customers receive great value and high-quality service.

“Personally, I am committed to providing the best service we can to our valued customers, and as a result, you will find me in-store most days working alongside our awesome team to deliver on this promise.”
