Four Square Heaphy Terrace is a multi-million dollar investment in the Fairfield community.
Four Square Heaphy Terrace celebrated the completion of a two-year refurbishment with a special event for the community.
The event revealed a refreshed and improved store custom-built for Heaphy Terrace locals. There was also a party with a 10 percent discount on most items to commemorate the occasion.
Part of Foodstuffs North Island, the Four Square Heaphy Terrace store is owned and operated by Alex Saunders, who has thoughtfully redesigned the store, focusing on improving the flow and layout.
“When I took over as owner-operator in September of 2021, I committed to invest in the store and the community of Fairfield. In the space of two years, we’ve completely transformed the store. It’s unrecognisable inside,” said Saunders.
“We’ve got a food-to-go kiosk offering hot food, chicken and chips and barista-made coffee. The aisles have been widened, we’ve got clearer signage and given everything a fresh coat of paint to make it as easy as possible for people to find all their everyday essentials and grocery items quickly.”
The revamped store has 600m2 of retail space, 7,000 products, and a full offer of fresh produce, bakery, butchery, and seafood.
Saunders has also invested heavily in energy efficiency, with new lighting and refrigeration to reduce the store’s carbon footprint further.
“It’s been a challenge to make so many changes without disrupting our customers' daily routines, but I couldn’t be happier with the results. I can’t wait to share them with the community.”
Four Square Heaphy Terrace opened as a New World in 1977 before rebranding to Four Square in 2012. This refurbishment is the biggest ever since it first opened 46 years ago.
“It’s pretty amazing to see how far it’s come. Everything inside has been replaced and improved to better suit the community. The timing couldn’t be more perfect, with Four Square celebrating its 100th birthday in July.”
The refurbishment has also created new opportunities for the community. Over the past few years, the store has expanded its team from 15 to 25 employees, with many team members living within walking distance.
"It's been great to be able to offer jobs to locals. We're proud to be a part of this community and to contribute to its growth."
Saunders hoped that everyone would love the changes, and over the coming months, he is keen to hear more about what the community wants to make Four Square Heaphy Terrace the best supermarket it can be.
