Following the success of an initial trial at Countdown Botany last August, Free Fruit for Kids has now landed in every Countdown store nationwide, allowing kids to snack on tasty fruit while their parents scour through the aisles.
“We know it can be a challenge to do the shopping with hungry kids in tow, so we thought this would make the shopping experience a little easier for families, while also encouraging kids to eat fresh fruit,” said Countdown’s acting managing director, Pat McEntee.
The offering will change every week, starting with apples and bananas. Customers will find them in the fruit and vegetable section, displayed in clearly marked baskets that will be refilled throughout the day.
Since the first test at Countdown Botany truly won the customers’ hearts, with a related Facebook post even receiving 100,000 ‘likes’, there is little doubt that the nationwide initiative will be welcomed by many.
