A traditional sign that Easter is approaching, the first hot cross buns has appeared in three Countdown stores in Blenheim and a nearby bakery, Coupland’s Bakeries Blenheim. The latter offers the popular treat all year round, with a limited-edition chocolate counterpart being marketed only during Easter.
Apparently, Blenheim stores got the jump on other retailers, who were not as eager to push sales of holiday products right after the Christmas break. Whilst PAK’nSAVE supermarkets throughout New Zealand already started selling Easter treats, their Blenheim customers will have to wait another couple of weeks to see hot cross buns on the shelves. The local New World is set to have them in-store from January 25th, whereas Picton Fresh Choice won’t stock any Easter products until next month.
