LIQUOR BAN CONFIRMED IN HAMILTON

countdown alcohol sales ban

A Countdown store in Hamilton has lost its appeal against a five-day ban on selling alcohol. The suspension had been ordered by the NZARLA, stating that the supermarket sold liquor to a visibly intoxicated man in August 2014. Countdown Anglesea had then appealed, claiming there was insufficient evidence to prove the man was actually intoxicated.
Witness Jacqui Graham, however, testified that at least three symptoms of intoxication were evident. Since Graham is also the CEO of Wise Group, one of the largest non-government providers in the mental health sector, the judge took into account her expertise and the appeal was dismissed.
