BAR OWNERS WANTING A ‘MINIMUM PRICE’ FOR ALCOHOL

Manawatu bar owners are urging the Government to set a minimum price for alcohol across both off-licences and on-licences premises, arguing that supermarket deals are killing the hospitality industry due to a superior buying power.
According to Foodstuffs’ spokeswoman Antoinette Laird, though, the Government conducted a review in 2014 and ‘determined that a minimum pricing policy would disproportionately affect moderate drinkers.
