Founder and co-owner of Palliser Estate Wines, Richard Riddiford has died aged 65 following a short illness. Riddiford had been a relevant figure in several industry initiatives such as the so-called ‘Family of Twelve’, which has seen 12 New Zealand wineries teaming up to promote their products overseas. In 2000, he was made a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit and, in 2010, was inducted into the NZ Wine Hall of Fame.
Last year, after 25 years running the company, Riddiford stepped down as managing director and Pip Goodwin took over as chief executive.
