HAWERA STORE GETS LIQUOR LICENCE SUSPENDED

A Countdown store is one of three Hawera businesses that are currently facing liquor licence suspensions for selling alcohol to underage buyers.

Countdown Hawera won’t be allowed to sell liquor for five days in November; the manager has also been suspended for 28 days.

“We apologise to our Hawera community for letting them down and for the inconvenience while our licence is suspended in mid-November,” said James Walker, general manager of corporate affairs, Countdown.

“There are serious consequences for our business when we get this wrong. As a business, we have made a number of improvements to the way we train our team, as well as to our processes including increased training, monthly compliance checks and increased mistery shopping.”
