Biodegradable fruit stickers

The latest innovation in sustainability comes from a group of high school students in Havelock North. What started out as a tech class project has turned into an impressive business opportunity, as the group of four girls have created a fully biodegradable fruit sticker.

All elements of the girl’s new product is eco-friendly, right down to the glue. The sticker dissolves when rubbed under warm water, ensuring that it does not come off too early and is still able to fulfill its purpose. The sticker us made from apple extract, but the exact recipe is being kept secret by the young innovators.

The group is currently working with intellectual property law firm AJ Park to secure a patent for their new product. The group plan on developing a business around their eco-friendly product and running it as they begin their University studies in the new year.
