COUNTDOWN CONTINUES ASSESSING EARTHQUAKE DAMAGE

Supermarket chain Countdown is assessing the damage, trying to get all of its stores safely up and running. For much of this week Countdown’s distribution centre in Palmerston will remain closed; meanwhile, orders will be diverted to Auckland’s distribution centres.
All Countdown stores in the South Island and nearly all stores in the North Island are trading, except the Queensgate Mall store, which won’t open today, and the Wainuiomata Mall store. The latter appears to be the most damaged by the earthquake; it needs some repairs, and a decision on its reopening will be made later this week.
All SuperValue and FreshChoice stores are also open, with the exception of SuperValue Seddon. New Zealanders can order online throughout the country, although there could be delays in the Wellington region and the Blenheim area.
