ECOSTORE HAS BEEN SOLD

Malcolm Rands

Twenty-two years after they had founded it, Malcolm and Melanie Rands sold their Ecostore to businessman Peter Kraus, who acquired the remaining ten percent share late last year. Kraus bought the first 50 percent share of the company in 2002, when the Rands started selling their share to fund global expansion.
The couple launched Ecostore in 1994, aiming to create a new business model based on social enterprise, and using the store as a source of funding for the Fairground Foundation.
Focusing on education, sustainability and environmental restoration, the not-for-profit charitable trust is about to launch significant projects that Rands will now be able to push while continuing in his full-time role as Ecostore founder, brand ambassador and spokesperson, at least for the next five years.
