The Packaging Forum is inviting Kiwis to rest, relax and recycle, pointing out that, during the festive season, New Zealanders generate around 30 percent more waste nationally.

“In seaside and tourist areas there is a massive 400 percent increase in waste and most of it can be recycled if people put it into the recycling bin rather than the rubbish bin,” said Lyn Mayes, communications manager, The Packaging Forum. “The New Zealand recycling rate for drinks containers is over 69 percent, but it would increase significantly if every bar, restaurant and entertainment venue recycled every bottle and can during this busy period.”

Fifty-five percent of Kiwis across NZ can also use the Love NZ recycling bins at participating Countdown, New World, Pak’nSave and The Warehouse stores.
