Countdown is up for two prizes at this year’s Green Ribbon Awards, which recognises New Zealanders efforts to protect the country’s environment. The supermarket chain is a finalist in both the Resilience to Climate Change category, for its work in reducing carbon emissions in spite of a 37 percent increase in selling space, and the Minimising Our Waste category for its Food Rescue programme. Countdown's competitor Foodstuffs is also a finalist in this category, for its recyclable butchery trays.
Winners will be announced at the Green Ribbon Award ceremony, to be held at Parliament on June 7.
