New Store Opening In Mount Maunganui

Four Square

A brand new Four Square for Mount Maunganui has opened, adding a convenient new grocery shopping experience in the main street of Mount Maunganui for visitors and residents, just in time for summer.

Located on the corner of Maunganui Road and Banks Ave, the brand that’s 99 years old is brought to life in a store that’s been designed using the new contemporary Four Square layout being rolled out around the country.

It showcases premium local brands, barista-made coffee, self-service checkouts, and fresh food-to-go options. The new store will be open seven days a week from 7 am until 8 pm.

New owner-operators Sasa and Tania Overend, who have four children, recently moved from Wellington and love the area. Sasa said they have always wanted to live and work in a location with beautiful beaches and a great climate.

“We’re pumped to bring the new look of Four Square to the community. The Mount is so much more than a holiday destination; it’s home to a welcoming local community, and we’re looking forward to being a part of it,” said Sasa.

Four Square Mount Maunganui will also serve Gravity barista-made coffee, Deadwood Deli sandwiches, ice creams, and other Kiwi favourites such as meat pies, hot chicken and chips, and grab-and-go meal options.

The 474 sqm store is one of the larger format Four Square stores and will stock over 4,000 products spread across five aisles. It also has five self-checkouts and three team member-operated checkouts, with 37 shared car parks behind the store, creating 15 new jobs for the community.

Sasa continued that they’d already spoken with many from the local community and other business owners, each who have said they were looking forward to a supermarket opening within walking distance.

“We’ve been looking forward to an open day for the last few weeks and have family and friends who have come to visit, so it’s a fascinating time for us, and we’re looking forward to meeting more of the community and encouraging them to come in and say hello.”

Foodstuffs North Island is a 100 percent New Zealand-owned co-operative of local grocery retailers. Each grocer owns and operates a New World, PAK’nSAVE or Four Square store in their community.

Four Square Mount Maunganui is the 11th new site opening for the co-operative this year, with the most recent new store being Four Square Waverley, which opened in late September.

Foodstuffs North Island worked alongside Ngāi Te Rangi Iwi and other local business leaders to bring the new look of Four Square to Mt Maunganui.
