Countdown Lynn Mall Bakery Team

Hot cross buns have never been ‘hotter’. Supermarket chain Countdown has announced that over three million hot cross buns have been purchased to date, with another eight million expected to be sold over the Easter period alongside three million chocolate eggs. Part of the profits will be donated to the Countdown Kids Hospital Appeal.
Customers seemed to appreciate both traditional and innovative flavours alike. Although the spiced fruit buns are still Kiwi's favourites, Hershey’s chocolate hot cross buns have been a hit so far, followed by fruitless buns. An absolute first, Sticky Date and Caramel hot cross buns won people’s taste buds as well.
Over 700 Countdown’s bakers have competed for the title of ‘Hot Cross Bun Bakery of the Year’. Their buns were judged on visual appeal, crossing and internal appearance, crumb texture, fruit quantity, overall quantity, volume and taste. This year’s award went to Countdown Lynn Mall, followed by Fraser Cove, Waipukurau and Christchurch Airport.
