NZ FOOD PRICES STEADY

According to Statistics NZ, food prices remained steady in October, following a 0.2 percent drop in September and a 1.4 percent jump in August. Grocery items prices decreased by 0.1 percent, while more expensive vegetables and cheaper fruit pushed produce prices down 0.1 percent. Non-alcoholic beverage prices fell 1.2 percent, whereas meat, poultry and fish prices increased 0.8 percent.
In the 14 weeks to 2 October, sales at Countdown supermarkets rose 1.9 percent to $1.59 billion.
