TOP NORTHLAND CHECKERS PUT SKILLS TO TEST

The three finalists: Harlen Paraone (PNS Whangarei), third place; Stephanie Turner (New World Onerahi), first place; and Shanay Howard (PNS Kaitaia), second place.

Over 50 checkout operators from Foodstuffs' stores in Northland (Pak’nSave, New World and Four Square) have taken part in one of the ten regional Checker of the Year competitions, with the three finalists hoping to be crowned Foodstuffs North Island Checker of Year in November.

Stephanie Turner (New World Onerahi), Shanay Howard (Pak’nSave Kaitaia) and Harlen Paraone (Pak’nSave Whangarei) were named as the top three checkers, based on their speed, customer service, accuracy and presentation while scanning 30 items. The top twelve checkers were also awarded a $50 gift card.

Introduced over 40 years ago, the competition rewards Foodstuffs’ checkout operators for their contribution in delivering an excellent shopping experience.
“The Checker of the Year competition is an incentive to make sure our skills are top-notch. It also boosts our checkers’ confidence in their customer service skills,” said Tara Drake, checkout manager, New World Onerahi.

The overall North Island winner and his/her two runners-up will be announced on 26 November at the Foodstuffs North Island Excellence Awards.
