Supermarket chain Countdown has recently revealed what Kiwis are shopping for, including essentials like sunscreen, insect repellent, ice cream and sausages.
As New Zealanders headed off to beaches and holiday hot spots, Countdown has seen sales increase in the Coromandel, Northland, Bay of Plenty, Waikato and Marlborough. Over summer, consumers are expected to buy around 25,000 litres of sunscreen and nearly 80,000 cans of insect repellent, while eating their way through the equivalent weight of 4,100 jandals worth of sausages. Of course, bottles of water and bags of ice are broadly popular.
To counterbalance the huge amount of food they have eaten during the festivities, Kiwis are also turning to healthier options such as watermelon, pineapple and honeydew, which according to Countdown are all big sellers over summer, along with salads and vegetables.
