THE Australian supermarket majors are now supplying more than 15% of wholesale goods into Australia’s convenience stores, new research has revealed. Soft drinks are the biggest supermarket wholesale line with 87% of retailers reporting having regularly purchased these products from supermarkets. In country areas, smaller retailers are sourcing more than 25% of their stock from supermarkets. What it is doing is throwing up incorrect takeout figures from the two sectors with supermarkets being credited with higher consumer sales than is correct and convenience stores being credited with less purchases from suppliers.
