RECORD MEDAL HAUL FOR GPL

Petone-based printer, Gravure Packaging Ltd (GPL), has achieved its best-ever return of medals at this year’s prestigious Pride In Print Awards.

In addition to claiming the Process Award for Gravure Print, GPL was bestowed with five Gold Medals and two Highly Commendeds -- surpassing its previous-best result of five Gold Medals in 2007, says GPL commercial manager Andrew Young.

“We only made nine entries, so to have eight successes is a great strike rate,” said Young. “Before we put entries into Pride In Print we go through a rigorous screening process internally, where our pre-press, sales and technical people carefully review the work before we decide which jobs will be submitted.”

Vitaco Health’s senior procurement specialist Pippa Burge said her team was “absolutely delighted” when informed of the Awards Night success by GPL’s newly appointed business development manager Michele Agar.

To help produce work of the quality necessary to compete for Pride In Print Awards, the Petone factory’s large gravure presses were recently updated to handle GPL’s proprietary high-definition image reproduction technology.

Furthermore, Young is advising the marketplace to “watch this space”.

“We are excited about a top-secret project we are working on this year and if it goes commercial, it will be a fantastic story to tell for next year’s Awards. We reckon it will be a strong contender for the Supreme Award.”
