HUNT FOR THE NEXT SUPERFOODS

A new $10 million research project at the University of Queensland, Australia, is now focusing on fruit, veggies and nuts bearing health benefits—the so-called ‘superfoods’.

The Naturally Nutritious project will be led by Dr Tim O’Hare, who developed SuperGold sweet corn, helping prevent macular eye degeneration. Scientists will identify the potential for new naturally healthy food products delivering measurable short-term benefits. From heart-shaped red strawberries for pregnant women to macadamias that improve cardiovascular health, the Naturally Nutritious project is set to help growers meet consumer demand for the healthiest, highest-quality produce.
