The NZ Ice Cream & Gelato Awards announced its top trophy winners at the gala awards dinner in Auckland last night, after awarding 189 medals.
Auckland artisan gelato maker, Little Lato, was named the Supreme Boutique Champion and Champion Gelato Award winner for their Speculoos Gelato. Previously Gelato and sorbet were not allowed to compete alongside ice cream for the two supreme awards, making Little Lato the first Gelato to win the major title.
The other supreme award, Americold Supreme Champion, went to Tip Top Ice Cream Company Kāpiti Fig & Manuka Honey. Tip Top took out six other trophies, including the GS Hall Novelty Ice Cream Award for the Boysenberry Trumpet.
The Takapuna Beach Café Double Chocolate Gelato won in the chocolate category, which had several stand-out entries.
The Gelato category saw 14 gold medals awarded, with Gellicious Gelato Black Doris Plum Sorbet winning the NZ Life & Leisure; Champion Sorbet.
