Wahiki Coconut Creamery has taken out the People’s Choice Award at the Westpac Auckland Awards with 16,000 votes. Wahiki scooped up the win by 1,200 with its closest competition being Kiwi burger brand Better Burger.
“We had a fantastic night. Winning the People's Choice Award for Wahiki and being finalists in the Marketing and Best Emerging Business categories with a business that is less than two years old,” said Haman Shahpari, Wahiki’s chief executive.
Wahiki’s ethos is to enjoy a guilt-free timeout (Wahiki means time-out in Maori), and Shahpari believes that is exactly what the company has delivered. “No other ice cream brand in New Zealand can claim to be as tasty and textured as us, with less sugar and calories. We’ve created the ice cream of your dreams, all the taste, none of the guilt.”
“We pump less air into our ice creams to make it fluffy, which is why it melts later than normal ice cream and is heavier. Every tub gets you more ice cream than other brands,” Shahpari added.
