The New Zealand Food and Grocery Council, in collaboration with New Zealand Food Safety, have created a webinar series to support Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) leaders with immediate to long-term solutions following the impacts of Cyclone Gabrielle.
The series is available to company leaders across the FMCG, including those not registered as FGC members. Led by registered Clinical Psychologist Jacqui Maguire, the webinar series will share practical resources and tools to support leaders’ care for their workplace teams, their families and themselves.
Separated into two parts, the first airing Monday, March 6th, titled ‘Looking after yourself and your loved ones so you can lead well during tough times’. The second part of the series will air on March 13th, entitled ‘Leading others during the response and recovery phases’.
Each episode will cover various topics of conversation on how to manage the impacts following Cyclone Gabrielle. Topics discussed in the first episode will include the psychological impact of natural disasters and how to recognise signs of affected mental health. The second episode will address identifying people's core needs during and following a disaster and how a leader can best plan and act in support.
Raewyn Bleakley, Chief Executive of FCG, stated that the idea for the webinar series was a clear and vital need following the impacts of Cyclone Gabrielle. The series was developed to support leaders and their workplace teams in recovering from the disaster.
“We could see many people would have huge challenges ahead, not only in their day jobs but also in making sure their staff and their families were okay,” explained Bleakley.
Following the impacts of Covid-19 and the pressure placed on the FMCG industry during the pandemic, the natural disaster would potentially only compile onto existing exhausted mental welfare and stress. Bleakley shared that importance of developing a response to support mental well-being became abundantly clear.
“In the aftermath of a disaster, it can be difficult to prioritise taking care of your well-being – getting rest, nutrition to fuel you, feeling moments of normalcy, and accessing support can be tough during the best of times. We’re delighted we’ve been able to team up with Vince Arbuckle and his great team at NZ Food Safety - Haumaru Kai Aotearoa to have Jacqui talk to our people.”
The two-part webinar series will be recorded and available for later viewing for those unable to make initial attendance. Please visit the New Zealand Food and Grocery Council or the New Zealand Food Safety website for more information.
