In an exciting development for New Zealand’s artisan food and beverage sector, St Andrews Limes has officially acquired Six Barrel Soda, the Wellington-based craft soda company.
The acquisition will strengthen both brands and enhance production capabilities while maintaining Six Barrel Soda's status as an independent and sustainable soda maker.
Six Barrel Soda has been a leader in the craft soda industry for over a decade, known for its inventive syrups, small-batch sodas, sugar-free Seltz Drops, and Sparkler soda makers. The brand has built a loyal following in New Zealand and internationally due to its commitment to quality, natural ingredients and bold, unique flavours.
St Andrews Limes is a quality producer of citrus juice, no/low sugar sodas, dressings, and condiments based in Hawke’s Bay. The company was excited about this excellent acquisition because it saw it as a natural fit, using the brand synergy to build a strong future.
The two companies have collaborated behind the scenes over the past few years, as St Andrews Limes has supplied the delicious lime and lemon juice used in many of Six Barrel Soda’s syrups.
“Six Barrel Soda founders have created a legacy business, by using their craftsmanship and creativity, to build an outstanding syrup company,” said Matthew Day, co-owner of St Andrews Limes with his wife, Tracy.
“We are delighted to continue building an enduring brand and company that stands above the rest. A commitment to excellence, integrity, and social responsibility are values that align perfectly with what we do at St Andrews Limes.”
The couple can’t wait to open the new site, which will bring both businesses together under one roof and be open to the public as Hawke’s Bay’s only specialty soda factory and cellar door.
Loyal fans of Six Barrel Soda can expect the same restaurant-quality drinks they love, with delicious plans for new, local flavours on the horizon.
“We’re excited about this next chapter,” said Joseph Slater, co-founder of Six Barrel Soda.
“After an amazing 12 years, we are hugely grateful to all of our loyal customers and can’t wait to see where Matt and Tracy take the business. We know they’ll do an amazing job.”
The acquisition will officially take place on the 31st of March, 2025. Both companies were committed to a seamless handover with minimal changes for customers and suppliers. The same Six Barrel Soda products will remain available through all usual stockists and online.
