FedEx Adds EVs To Its Fleet

Federal Express Corporation has announced the addition of ten new electric vehicles to its fleet in New Zealand.

FedEx will deploy the LDV eDeliver 9, which features zero tailpipe emissions and can travel 200 kilometres on a full charge. The EVs will be used for the company’s pickup and delivery operations in high-traffic areas in Auckland.

This range, combined with the EV charging stations installed at FedEx facilities in Auckland, ensures that the vehicles can easily operate a full day's route, making them an efficient choice for last-mile delivery solutions.

“By integrating EVs into our fleet, we are taking tangible steps to help reduce the impact of our operations on the environment while also steering the industry towards a more sustainable model of delivery and logistics,” said Stephen William, Senior Manager of Operations at FedEx New Zealand.

As more consumers shop online and sustainability factors influence their decisions, integrating EVs into FedEx operations in New Zealand will help meet customers' evolving preferences.

The deployment of EVs in New Zealand will also contribute towards the company’s goal of carbon-neutral global operations by 2040.

FedEx has taken a phased approach to vehicle electrification. By 2030, it strives to purchase exclusively zero-tailpipe emissions vehicles for its owned parcel pickup and delivery fleet. The company also aims to have all parcel pickup and delivery vehicles be zero-tailpipe emissions models by 2040.

Beyond vehicle electrification, FedEx has focused on improving the efficiency of fleets, fuels, and facilities across its integrated air-ground network. This includes initiatives like aircraft modernisation, fuel-saving efforts, and renewable energy investments.

The company has also provided customers with solutions, such as packaging solutions and emissions reporting tools, to help align their shipping activities with their sustainability objectives.
