In the autumn of 2023, two internationally-operating players, Anuga and UNIDO, are coming together to discuss the challenges of the worldwide food industry, address the opportunities and solutions and bring important players together for joint projects. A key topic is addressing the challenge of guaranteeing a sustainable future for everyone. Economic growth, social development and environmental and climate protection must be reconciled.
The professional exchange promotes economic growth and sustainable development in the food industry. This predominantly includes the opportunities and potential that the realisation of the sustainable development goals of the United Nations (SDGs) brings about for the food sector players, for example. But themes like developing a resistant infrastructure, promoting sustainable industrialisation, and supporting innovations will be discussed jointly with UNIDO at Anuga 2023.
"We have won over a strong partner in UNIDO, which asserts itself for the global sustainable industrial development. Together with Anuga as an international platform of the food industry and its key theme this year, ‘Sustainable Growth’, we are creating a stage at the trade fair that places the focus on the topic of food security as an essential basis for sustainable economic development,” said Oliver Frese, Chief Operating Officer of Koelnmesse.
Frese continued that at the same time, in this context, exhibitors are offered the possibility to draw increased attention to their products and innovations to promote a sustainable food system. Anuga and UNIDO are perfect for an international audience with representatives from political, business and media circles.
“We are very much looking forward to the joint exchange.”
Gerd Müller, General Director of UNIDO, stated that contributing to creating a world without hunger is one of his top priorities at UNIDO.
“With our special focus on agribusiness and food systems, UNIDO helps to build the capacity of both farmers and processors to add value while promoting rural economic development and structural change in the agricultural economy,” said Müller.
Müller explained that UNIDO contributed directly to strengthening food security by increasing local value addition, promoting agricultural investment, reducing post-harvest losses, and improving access to food.
Over the coming weeks, the plans for Anuga 2023 will be further defined together with UNIDO. In the scope of the leading global trade fair for food and beverages, under the motto ‘A world without hunger is possible’, various event formats and discussion rounds will provide the trade audience with insights into solutions as well as examples of best practices for sustainable development within the food industry.
