In the sweets and snacks industry, innovation continues to be a driving force in creating unique products. The recent ISM, the leading global trade fair for the sweets and snacks industry, recognised and celebrated new and pioneering products. Award-winning companies showcased their commitment to creative experimentation with new ingredients, textures, and flavours to provide customers with exciting taste experiences. Additionally, these companies demonstrated dedication to innovative manufacturing methods, environmentally friendly practices, and extraordinary packaging, contributing to their products' attractiveness, healthiness, and sustainability.
An independent jury of industry, trade, and science experts selected the top innovations at ISM 2024. The top innovations were announced during the exclusive ISM Dinner in Cologne on January 28, 2024.
The top 3 innovations of ISM 2024 were:
- Planet A Foods GmbH: The German company secured the first position with 'ChoViva,' a more sustainable cocoa alternative. The novel chocolate experience completely eliminates cocoa, relying on a climate-friendly concept. While initially presented as an independent chocolate bar brand, Planet A Foods' future focus is on incorporating ChoViva as an ingredient brand in various products. The taste is comparable to conventional chocolate but has a significantly better CO2 footprint, making ChoViva the most innovative product at ISM 2024.
- Gudrun Commercial NV: This Belgian company claimed the second spot with 'UPPA Cacaofruit Bites.' The product distinguished itself with excellent quality and the use of fruit pulp. These 'Upcycled' Cacaofruit Bites, involving the recycling of fruit pulp, contribute to a 30 percent reduction in material usage. This sustainable approach aligns with the industry trend of developing environmentally friendly products that provide additional sources of income for farmers.
- PEZ International GmbH: The Austrian company secured the third position with 'PEZ MyHead.' This product stood out for its unique design and marketing approach. PEZ International GmbH tapped into the nostalgia of children's memories with dispensers reminiscent of those from the 1950s. Adding a modern twist, the company introduced Pez dispensers with 3D-printed heads resembling real people. This personalised touch creates an individual character for the dispensers, fostering a strong emotional connection with the consumers.
The New Product Showcase has been the central platform for the industry's new products since 2009 and has established itself as an appealing attraction for all decision-makers at ISM. A high-quality special exhibition on Central Boulevard gives the visitors the targeted opportunity to inform themselves about the innovations of the sweets and snacks industry. Comprising 100 display windows and over 122 products from more than 83 exhibitors from 21 nations, the New Product Showcase once again offers an overview of products that will shape the industry's future.
