Media That Moves People

Media That Moves People

Out of home has always relied on people moving. Audiences pass through streets, train stations and busy venues, and somewhere along that path a screen or a sign catches their eye.

HYPER's new Digital Street Team turns that idea on its head. Instead of waiting for people to walk past an ad, the ad walks through the crowd instead: full motion media moving with the audience, surprising people and starting conversations as it goes.

Launched in June 2026, it's New Zealand's first mobile, 4 G-connected DOOH format. A trained brand ambassador wears a 21-inch screen on their back, playing full motion, synchronised HD video that updates in real time to the location, the moment, or the audience in front of it.

The screen pulls people in from a distance. The ambassador closes the gap, product trained, sample in hand, ready to start a conversation and get a trial happening on the spot.

It's the same thinking behind everything HYPER builds. Rather than squeezing a brand into a format that already exists, the format gets built around getting that brand in front of the right person, wherever they happen to be. The brand goes to the shopper, not the other way round.

Fresh Box, a curated sampling and product discovery experience that helps brands get products into consumers' homes for trial through themed meal occasions, was one of the first Kiwi brands to put it to work.

On a sunny Sunday in central Auckland, with families out walking, lunch crowds spilling onto the footpath and bars packed for the football, the Digital Street Team walked straight into the middle of it. No stand to find and no queue to join: the brand and the sample came directly to people already out enjoying their day.

The timing worked in Fresh Box's favour too. The activation ran alongside its Family Feast campaign, which sold out within hours of going live.

"Fresh Box?" "Wait, is that a walking billboard?" "That's actually really cool." Snatches of conversation followed the screen through the crowd, the kind of reaction that only comes from something moving through people, not standing still in front of them.

Fresh Box is just one proof point for a bigger idea. Every brand is fighting for attention in an OOH landscape that's more crowded and more competitive than ever.

HYPER's answer isn't always a bigger screen or a louder message. Sometimes it's a smarter one: a screen that moves, a person who can talk, and an experience people won't forget.

That's the model behind the Digital Street Team, and Fresh Box won't be the last brand to use it.
