UK | Aldi has hit its commitment to sell 100 percent cage-free eggs more than a year ahead of schedule.
Britain’s fourth-largest supermarket, Aldi, has been working with its suppliers to improve hen welfare in recent years. All its UK stores now only sell cage-free eggs.
Not only this, but all of Aldi’s eggs are also British Lion Code-approved. According to the latest data from Kantar, the supermarket now sells more British free-range eggs than any other UK supermarket.
“Improving animal welfare is incredibly important to us at Aldi, and by working with our suppliers, we have hit our 100 percent cage-free target more than a year early,” said Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi.
“Our British suppliers are at the heart of our business; without them, Aldi wouldn’t be where it is today, and we are proud to work with so many UK egg farmers.”
Over the past two years, Aldi has invested more than £50m in UK egg farming and producers, further supporting the British cage-free egg industry.
The retailer also ensured it implemented long-term contracts for its egg suppliers, providing them with certainty and security to continue investing and growing their businesses.
