First-Ever Sainsbury’s In Dumfries

First-Ever Sainsbury's In Dumfries

UK | Sainsbury's has opened its first-ever store in Dumfries, bringing major investment to southwest Scotland.

The new supermarket, located on the site of a former Homebase store, represents a GBP 17 million investment by Sainsbury's, transforming the location into a modern supermarket destination spanning more than 35,000 sq ft.

The opening has marked a significant milestone for Sainsbury's, which has long identified Dumfries as a community it wanted to serve. Prior to this launch, the nearest Sainsbury's supermarket for many customers in the area was Carlisle, around 25 miles away.

In addition to offering Sainsbury's extensive range of great value, high-quality food and household essentials, the store features an in-store Argos, with thousands of products available for same-day collection.

Customers can also order from the retailer's full Tu Clothing and Habitat ranges. The opening even enabled Sainsbury's to offer groceries online to customers across this part of southwest Scotland for the first time, providing greater convenience and access to the retailer's products and services.

Customers can sign up for a free Nectar card here, ahead of their first shop, to access exclusive Nectar Prices and personalised offers from day one.

Daniel Burnett, Store Manager at Sainsbury's Dumfries, was delighted to have opened the first-ever store in Dumfries and to have welcomed so many customers under one roof.

“At Sainsbury’s, we’re passionate about making good food joyful and accessible to everyone, so we're delighted by the fantastic welcome we’ve already received from the local community,” said Burnett.

“I'm incredibly proud of the team whose hard work and dedication have made this possible, as well as everyone else in and around the town who has supported us along the way. Thank you for everything, and we hope you’re as pleased with the result as we are."

The new store is Sainsbury's 25th store opening of 2026, reflecting the retailer's continued investment in its estate and ambition to bring its offer to more customers and communities across the UK.
