Becoming A Barista At Home

Self-confessed coffee connoisseur and owner of Coffee Beans Delivered, Ryd Jeavons, has predicted that the next twelve months will see consumers drinking good quality coffee at home and saving money on takeaway as the cost of living pressures hit the average Australian.

Jeavons explained that over the last decade, coffee has become a tradition, a way of life, especially in Australia and other Western countries.

“We have seen an increase in the consumption of barista-made coffee, and now, with the rising financial costs, I can’t see our love of coffee decreasing,” said Jeavons.

As a result, data from some of the leading drive-through coffee companies, like Muzz Buzz, has shown a decline in takeaway coffee sales whilst the retail sales of coffee beans have risen significantly.

“As the owner of a coffee bean delivery company, my figures have reflected the data coming through from the big retail chains, and it is evident that the coffee drinker is moving from the pre-made coffee to the self-made variety.”

Jeavons believes several factors are creating a perfect storm for homemade coffee, adding that machines are becoming more affordable and beans more accessible, coupled with inflated costs of takeaway coffee, prompting the question: Why wouldn’t a consumer find a bean flavour they like and create a coffee at home to start their day?

The coffee connoisseur said that with the versatile varieties available, including the many organic blends aligned with trending flavours right now, customers are more than inclined to make coffee at home.

“I think the takeaway coffee industry as a whole is in for a tough time over the coming year as the price of coffee beans continues the price decline.”

Jeavons and his company, Coffee Beans Delivered, are attending the Melbourne International Coffee Expo this weekend, returning for its 10th Birthday at the Melbourne Convention Centre.
