USA | Repeat users of Kroger's AI shopping assistant are spending 11 percent more, according to figures released by the US supermarket retailer.
Speaking at Kroger's October investor presentation, executive vice-president and chief e-commerce officer Nate Faust said the increase was driven by customers shopping more frequently.
The company has not disclosed how many customers were included in the results or whether the increase was directly attributable to the technology.
Kroger introduced its AI shopping assistant earlier this year to help customers plan meals, find recipes, and build grocery baskets according to their budgets, dietary requirements, and preferences.
The assistant is now available across all Kroger retail banners. It uses customer purchasing information to make personalised recommendations, with Kroger looking to encourage more shoppers to use the service through its app.
In September, Kroger's executive vice-president and chief digital officer Yael Cosset outlined how the company was using AI to help customers find products and simplify online grocery shopping.
Kroger is now working to increase adoption of the assistant among its existing customers, although it has yet to release figures showing how widely the service is being used.
While the early spending figures are encouraging for Kroger, further data would be needed to establish whether AI-assisted shopping is generating additional sales or changing how customers shop.
