A leading Korean plant-based meat brand has announced that it took away first place in the new plant-based frozen product category at Albertsons stores last month.
UNLIMEAT has been sold at Albertsons stores across the U.S.A since January 2023, and the popular brand has garnered attention within the plant-based category for its unique product line. The brand's range includes Korean BBQ and two flavours of Pulled Pork, differing from more common plant-based products, often chicken nuggets, patties, and sausage alternatives.
The retailer, Albertson's, has sought out brands and strategies to cater to the growing market demand and popularity of the plant-based category and has been the first to introduce private-brand Certified Plant-Based foods in collaboration with the Plant-Based Foods Association.
UNLIMEAT's success can be attributed to its Korean roots, which add unique flavour to the shape and taste of the product. These characterisations have made the brand's first-place win more meaningful for the brand.
Its Korean BBQ is a vegan product made to resemble beef chuck. While Pulled Pork is a typical dish of the American South, the UNLIMEAT product adds an Asian touch with its sauces. The original flavour has a Sweet and Savoury garlic sauce, while the Sweet and Smoky has the scent of charcoal-grilled ribs, a barbecue dish representative of Korean cuisine.
"We're thrilled to have received this recognition in Albertsons companies' plant-based frozen product category," shared a representative for UNLIMEAT.
"Major food companies, such as Kellogg's and ConAgra, occupy the top positions among plant-based product sales, making it challenging for small food startups from Asia to enter the rankings so soon after launch."
The representative stated that the first-place prize showed the potential possibilities for the brand's product.
