Needles found in strawberries prompts investigation

An investigation is underway following the discovery of a needle inside a strawberry which was purchased at a FreshChoice supermarket in South Canterbury.

The punnet was purchased in Geraldine on Saturday morning and was promptly reported to police. Following the report, all strawberries were pulled from the shelves of the supermarket in question and the Ministry of Primary Industries arrived to conduct an inspection. By Monday afternoon the supermarket had been cleared to continue selling strawberries, but an official criminal investigation is underway to reveal the culprit.

While the person who found the needle was not harmed, investigations will continue and the public is being called to report any suspicious activity. This incident follows the arrest of a 50-year-old woman who was charged with similar crimes in Queensland earlier this month.
