In a six-month sales report released by the brand, Nestle reaffirmed its commitment to producing 100 percent deforestation-free products by 2020.
Over the past 10 years, the brand has been at the forefront of ending deforestation across its supply chain. An integrated approach was developed which combines certification, supply chain mapping, on-the-ground verification and satellite surveillance. According to the report, as of April 2019, 77 percent of the key agricultural commodities Nestlé buys, including soy and palm oil, were verified deforestation-free. Said figure will surpass 90 percent by the end of 2020.
The company also said that it will continue to “work with smallholder farmers and large suppliers” to meet the goal.
