UK | Sainsbury's is expanding to a new location in Edinburgh with the opening of its latest store, Sainsbury's Biggar Road Local. Ian Murray, MP for Edinburgh South, alongside colleagues and patrons, marked the opening of the new Local, heralding its introduction to Fairmilehead.
Situated on the ground floor of the Pentland Outdoor Centre, the new 2,820 sq. ft. store not only enriches the retail landscape but also secures the future of the building as a local hub for the Fairmilehead community. With approximately 1,800 households within a 15-minute walk, the store provides residents with a convenient destination for grocery shopping, complementing existing local businesses. Notable establishments include Cobbs Café, now featuring an enhanced entrance and expanded space on the upper level, and a reconfigured Craigdon Mountain Sports on the lower ground floor.
Dedicated to the ethos of 'Good food for all of us,' the new store showcases a meticulously curated selection of delectable products, ranging from fresh produce, fruits, and vegetables to food-to-go, pantry staples, and freshly baked goods. Additionally, customers can benefit from a new collection point, allowing them to conveniently order and pick up products from beloved brands such as Argos, Habitat, and Tu Clothing.
Half of the eighteen-member strong store team new to Sainsbury's is poised to engage actively in Sainsbury's local and nationwide charitable initiatives. One example is the Nourish the Nation campaign, a collaborative effort with Comic Relief to address food poverty by enhancing communities' access to well-balanced, nutritious, and sustainable food sources. As part of the commitment made during the 2023 festive season, Sainsbury's pledged to contribute £3 million to the program through direct donations and proceeds linked to the sale of selected products.
Patrick Dunne, Sainsbury's Property Director, was happy at the opening, particularly with the Pentland Outdoor Centre's ground floor transformation into an outstanding Sainsbury's store for the local community. He extended gratitude to all those who supported the journey, emphasising the positive impact of Sainsbury's investment in Fairmilehead.
Anthony Penman, Sainsbury's Edinburgh Biggar Road Local Store Manager, conveyed excitement about welcoming customers to the brand-new store. Expressing a commitment to providing good food for all, Penman highlighted the enthusiasm of the dedicated team in delivering an exceptional experience for the residents of Fairmilehead.
