SHOPPER SLIPS ON GRAPE, GETS $93,500 IN DAMAGES

Sangeeta Guru was at a Coles store in Sydney when she slipped on a grape, in 2012, injuring her knees and back. This week, the 40-year-old beautician was awarded NZ$93,580 in damages, after a NSW District Court judge found that Coles had been negligent, failing to address the risk of harm posed by grapes on the floor. Coles unsuccessfully argued there had been ‘contributory negligence’ on Guru’s behalf, as she should have been looking where she was going.
