UK SHOPPERS PREFER SUPERMARKETS’ PREMIUM LABELS

Over the past three months, UK shoppers have ditched famous brands for supermarkets’ premium labels, according to a report by Kantar Worldpanel, with Morrisons’ ‘The Best’ and Asda’s ‘Extra Special’ range experiencing growth of 35 percent and 15 percent respectively. However, sales of branded products were down 1.1 percent, slowing supermarket growth to just 0.7 percent. Figures also show that, despite the 15 percent slump in the pound’s value following Brexit, the average shopping basket was 0.1 percent cheaper than a year ago.
